Vampires aren't real. But at one point in the 70s, in California, a man who had a penchant for drinking human blood and killing his victims terrorized the city of Sacramento. Here is his story.
Download FREE with Kindle Unlimited!
Richard Trenton Chase Jr., otherwise known as the Sacramento Vampire, terrorized California during the 1970s. He brutalized, killed, and even ate his victims. But what stood out most in the public’s imagination was his penchant for drinking their blood, like a modern-day vampire. The truth is, Chase was a severely disturbed individual. Some killers are cold-blooded monsters, some simply have terrible impulse control—but others are completely deranged. Chase fits into that category.
Since he was diagnosed with severe mental illness, it remains debatable how cognizant—and how culpable—Chase was of what he was doing.
Prosecutors later highlighted several aspects of Chase’s assaults which they believed showed that he was aware of the gravity of his actions, and should therefore be held accountable. His defense attorneys, on the other hand, tried to demonstrate that Chase was a man so removed from reality that he should be considered not guilty by reason of insanity.
At any rate, whatever might have been going on in the mind of Richard Chase Jr., his victims were real, and the horrors he inflicted on them were very real as well. The deeds of Richard Chase Jr. most certainly make for a frightening, sad, and twisted tale. This book documents this disturbed man’s troubled life, his horrific rampage, and his subsequent demise in full.

What does evil look like? Serial Killer Richard Ramirez certainly comes to mind…
Download FREE with Kindle Unlimited!
There are some people who travel so far beyond the pale of conventional morality that their actions almost seem like desperate works of fiction. Richard Ramirez is one such person, a Satan-worshipping drug addict who carried out one of America’s most brutal and horrific crime sprees. He burgled, raped, and killed his way across California and left the authorities with nothing to chase. Named the Night Stalker by the press, he seemed like a ghost. Striking fear into the heart of every single person in the area, no one seemed safe from the actions of Richard Ramirez.
In this book, we will examine his most horrific crimes while attempting to explain exactly what could drive a man so far from the moral centre of society. A difficult upbringing, brain trauma, and a troubled domestic situation certainly added to his problems, but many of Ramirez’s most damning actions were created entirely in his own twisted mind. This book will attempt to tell the story of the man who gouged eyes, scratched pentagrams, and butchered families. If there is any explanation for the crimes committed by the Night Stalker, then it likely lies between his past and his actions. In examining both, we will know the real person behind the murders.
Such is the nature of these ruthless, and cruel murders, the scenes depicted within will not be for the faint-hearted. There are few killers in American history who can come close to matching the vicious levels of violence inflicted by Ramirez during his wave of attacks. While names such as Dahmer and Gacy are remembered by the American public, the murders of the Night Stalker have long been forgotten. So read on and find out the truth behind one of America’s most shocking and horrifying serial killers.

Agreeing or not with the death penalty, death row killers committed some of the most atrocious crimes ever and are awaiting their execution on death row. Meet some of the evilest and heinous death row killers today.
Download FREE with Kindle Unlimited
It’s a hard thing to comprehend. Innocent life is taken, and a cold-blooded killer has absolutely no remorse. It is for such heinous individuals that society usually reserves its harshest of penalties. For there are some crimes and some criminals that simply seem to go beyond the pale. These murderers not only kill but do so in such a depraved manner that public outrage builds to a fever pitch until the only thing that will satiate the desire for justice is the death penalty.
Here in this book, we will go over a wide variety of death penalty cases. Some of them involve infamous serial killers such as the Grim Sleeper; in others, like that of Lisa Montgomery—who killed a pregnant woman and surgically removed her baby—the circumstances were simply so malicious that the crime was judged to merit death. The motives for the crime vary as well, but the sentences don’t. Here you will find some of the most notorious killers ever to sit on death row.

Keith Hunter Jesperson, The Sad Story of the Happy Face Killer
Download FREE with Kindle Unlimited!
Stories about serial killers are incredibly popular. Tracking down a mass murderer is a regular plot line in films, television, and literature. But these stories are so often based on real life. In certain circumstances, however, real life goes a step beyond what we could imagine happening in fiction. Sometimes, the actions of a serial killer can seem so extreme and strange, their motivations so twisted and evil, that we struggle to comprehend exactly how they fit into the modern world. In the case of Keith Hunter Jesperson, the truth behind his murder spree is more horrific than anything dreamt up by Hollywood’s best screenwriters.
After a disturbing childhood left the giant of a man riddled with emotional and psychological scars, Jesperson traveled across Canada and spent time strangling and killing women whom he met along the way. While he was only convicted of eights murders, his own boasts suggest that total could have reached as high as 160. As a truck driver, he had the perfect cover story for traveling from town to town without having to put down roots. Often leaving an unsuspecting family at home, he was out in the wilderness committing heinous acts without anyone from the authorities coming close to suspecting his guilt.
Jesperson, annoyed by the lack of attention he was receiving, began to leave messages to the public. Scrawled onto the walls of truck stop bathrooms, he signed each confession with a happy, smiley face. This led the media to nickname him the Happy Face Killer. It was decades before the investigators came close to catching the killer, so read on to discover just how Keith Hunter Jesperson managed to get away with numerous horrific murders. This is the story of the Happy Face Killer.

Some serial killers seem surreal, as if it's almost impossible to believe that an individual could do such horrific crimes. The Beast of Birkenshaw, a.k.a. Peter Manuel, was such an individual man.
Download FREE with Kindle Unlimited!
Peter Manuel was Scotland’s first serial killer and certainly the country’s most notorious mass murderer. But he was so much more than that. As well as the horrific nature of his murders, which killed men, women, and children, he possessed a constant arrogance and a swift intelligence that often allowed him to operate right underneath the noses of the local law enforcement. Always happy to embarrass the police in Glasgow and the surrounding area, he waged a lifelong battle of wits which ended with him being hanged.
But the legend of Peter Manuel lives on. He had a penchant not only for violent killings, but for having the audacity to represent himself in court. Sometimes, this was successful and sometimes it was not. But each time, he was noted for his deft ability to out manoeuvre the best police officers Glasgow had to offer. When he eventually faced his last court hearing, it was described in the tabloids as the Trial of the Century. In this book, we will attempt to look into the history of the killer and the reasons he might have had for carrying out his horrific series of crimes.
Throughout the various chapters of this book, we will meet the friends, the family members, and the enemies of Peter Thomas Anthony Manuel, the man described as having the names of the saints, but the heart of Satan himself. We will examine Manuel’s worst crimes, while exploring the background that made him into the man he was. We will even look at his obsession with outsmarting the authorities. If you would like to learn more about the life of Peter Manuel, this is the book for you.

Convicted of murders they did not commit... astonishing cases of miscarriage of justice that led to rethinking the capital punishment
Download FREE with kindle Unlimited!
Ever since DNA evidence started exonerating death row inmates, public concern about wrongful executions has been on the rise. It has been such a source of worry that some states have abolished the death penalty entirely.
Although we want to believe that the criminal justice system designed to protect us is infallible, mistakes can be and are made. The ultimate tragedy is when an innocent person is executed for a crime that he or she didn’t commit.
Inside find three stories of wrongful executions in the UK, where justice was swift and limitless appeals were not supported. In one case the person was actually exonerated forty-six years after being hanged.
● Eliza Fenning and the Devilish Dumplings: In March 1815, the entire household of Robert Turner, a London law stationer, was struck by a mysterious illness. When a search was made for its cause, a substance believed to be arsenic was found in the dish used to mix up yeast dumplings the family had eaten for dinner. Although she had fallen ill too, Eliza Fenning, the twenty-one-year-old maid who had prepared the dumplings, was charged with attempted murder and hanged. Her execution is still regarded as one of Britain’s worst miscarriages of justice.
● The Messalina of Ilford: Edith Thompson and her younger lover, Frederick Bywaters, were executed in January 1923 for the murder of Edith’s husband. Although Mr. Bywaters confessed and insisted that Mrs. Thompson had nothing to do with the murder, she was held equally responsible for the crime because of some letters that expressed hostile intent toward her overbearing spouse. Her supporters believed that she had really been condemned for being an adulteress. There is currently a campaign in process to win her a posthumous royal pardon.
● “Let Him Have It”: On January 28, 1953, nineteen-year-old Derek Bentley was hanged at Wandsworth Prison for the murder of a Metropolitan Police constable. Bentley had not fired the fatal shot, but his sixteen-year-old accomplice was too young to receive the death penalty, so the mentally impaired Bentley went to the gallows instead. In 1998, thanks to four decades of vigorous campaigning by his family, he received a posthumous pardon. His execution was instrumental in the abolition of capital punishment in the UK.
It is too late to save these victims of wrongful execution, but the time has come to accept that, regardless of our individual feelings about the death penalty, all future debates on the subject must proceed with the knowledge that innocent people have been put to death.

The scariest thing about serial killers is that they are actual people. Tiago Henrique Gomes da Rocha is among Brazil’s most prolific serial killers. This is his story. Look at how far a human can go into the depth of heinous crimes.
Download FREE with Kindle Unlimited
For Brazil, Tiago Henrique Gomes da Rocha is the monster in the deceptive mask, the handsome man with the suave persona that fooled so many. He is a good-looking young man, 6’4” with brown hair and brown eyes, who is considered a decent person by those who know him. Although he was a quiet child, and he kept to himself even in adulthood, he had all the physical qualities that women find attractive. Unfortunately, this fact undoubtedly helped him become the most murderous serial killer the city of Goiânia, in Brazil, had ever known.
As a security guard, he was a man trained and paid to protect people. Yet, by the time he was 29, Gomes da Rocha had murdered some 39 people and committed at least 90 armed robberies. His demeanor and lifestyle aroused no suspicions, and his nightmare rampage lasted four years before he was finally caught.
His good looks and unassuming personality were not the only reason he got away with his crimes for so long. His murder victims were random; his modus operandi fluctuated between stabbing, shooting, and choking; and his favored outfit made identifying him difficult. Dressed all in black, wearing a black helmet and riding a black motorcycle with stolen license plates, he easily avoided identification, and he never hinted that he could possibly have a dark side to anyone who knew him.

Gille de Rais has been described as one of the most horrific serial killers of the Middle Ages or was he? Revisiting Gilles de Rais crimes.

La Roche-Bernard, France. September 1438
Peronne Loessart knew that she should feel honored, both for herself and on her young son’s behalf. But she was still in a state of unease bordering on fear.
The Baron de Rais and his entourage were in her town, stopping at the hotel of Jean Colin, which was in the immediate neighborhood of Madame Loessart’s home. One of the Baron’s men, a man named Poitou, had spied her ten-year-old son and approached her about engaging the boy as his page.
Young Loessart often drew such attention. He was an uncommonly beautiful child, with golden hair and expressive blue eyes. But this was the first time that he had come to the notice of a potential patron.
Poitou, whose real name was Étienne Corrillaut, went to Madame Loessart and offered her four pounds for the boy’s services, with an added bonus of one hundred sous for a new dress. He also promised to continue the child’s education at a prestigious institution.
Although distressed at the thought of being parted from her son, Madame Loessart finally agreed. She knew that he had limited opportunities for advancement in La Roche-Bernard. Poitou also gave her his word that the boy would be well provided for.
She believed it. Gilles de Rais was the Marshal of France, a great man who had helped Jeanne d’Arc bring about the victory at Orléans. A regal escort preceded him wherever he went, and trumpeters announced his presence at each destination. His ostentatious display of wealth and pageantry turned heads and inspired both awe and adoration. Now her son would have the chance to benefit from such glory.
A pony was purchased from the hotel owner for the boy to ride, and the Baron’s entourage left for his castle at Machecoul the following day. There was probably a tearful goodbye, accompanied by promises to send messages and see each other soon.
Despite the excellent opportunity she appeared to be giving her son, Madame Loessart remained anxious. Perhaps separation anxiety was taking hold. Maybe the rumors that had been circulating lately now seemed more plausible. Whatever the reason, she suddenly ran after the departing party.
One of the Baron’s servants intercepted the distraught woman and held her back, reminding her that a bargain had been struck. Gilles de Rais did not respond to her pleas. Instead, he spoke to the servant restraining her.
“He (the child) is well chosen. He is as beautiful as an angel.”
Finally, Madame Loessart calmed down, and the Baron’s party resumed its journey.
Two years passed. The Baron’s servants passed through the village once during that time, although young Loessart was not with them. On demanding news of her son, the men informed her that the boy was either at Tiffauges or Pouzauges. The truth was that he was long dead.

November 7, 1974
As she entered her home in Milledgeville, Georgia, all Ellen Carr probably had on her mind was going to bed. She was a registered nurse who worked a night shift, and although the small family welcomed the money, the job was a demanding one.
Inside, the house was unnaturally quiet. She found that odd. Her husband, forty-five-year-old businessman Carswell Carr and fifteen-year-old daughter Amanda usually greeted her when she came home from the hospital.
That wasn’t the only sign that something was seriously amiss. As an investigator later put it, “The (place) looked as if it had been attacked by an animal.” Mirrors were smashed. Slashed furniture lay everywhere, some of it in pieces. Books from the bookshelves littered the floor.
Had they been robbed? Where were Carswell and Mandy? Heart pounding, Mrs. Carr ran from room to room, calling out. Minutes later, she was back outside, screaming hysterically. Neighbors called the police to what was obviously the scene of a gruesome double homicide.
Carswell Carr’s nude corpse was lying face down on the couple’s bed, hands bound behind his back and twenty-seven stab wounds, inflicted by scissors, all over his body. The medical examiner later determined that he had died of a heart attack, likely brought on by the torture. Down the hall, Amanda was also face down in her room, one nylon stocking tied tightly around her neck and the other shoved down her throat. To compound the horror, she appeared to have been raped after death.
When Mrs. Carr regained her senses, she went through the house with the police and identified several things that were missing: Carswell’s briefcase, shaving kit, credit cards, identification, and most of his clothing.
While detectives searched for more clues, the murderer, wearing his victim’s clothes, was in an Atlanta bar, flirting with a lady reporter. He told her his name was Daryl Golden, but his real name was Paul John Knowles, and he was destined to be remembered as one of the most vicious and unpredictable serial killers of his generation.
