Just purchased a house and needed to change all the locks. I bought 3 set of the Kwikset Tustin Entry lever after looking at many other brand. I wanted to use the same key for all entry so this was the best option. I picked this over the knob type because it's looks more clean and stylish. The nickle finish makes an old door come alive again. At first, I had some minor hiccup with installation but that was my fault because I opted not to read the directions. After the first install, the next two were very fast and easy. I really like this re-key feature. One key to 'open' them all I had initially bought these at a big box hardware store; however, the price is more competitive on Amazon. Save some money and gas, and just get it delivered to your door! OEM box, looks like a knock off, but might be real

I expected the lock handle to arrive in the same box I would buy at Home Depot, but it doesn't, its a plain brown cardboard box. It appears to be an OEM box, if you know the term. The handle and guts of the lock don't look quite right. I have bought the same lock handles at Home Depot recently and all I can say is that the Home Depot Kwikset version looks nicer. There is a cheap look to this one. It might be the real deal, but it looks like a knockoff. The metal inside is different, the screws are different. Its fine for my purposes, but there is a reason you are paying $35 when it sells in HD for $48.

I purchased this lever for my master bedroom door, simply so I could lock it to keep guest and kiddos out. I was very pleased with the look and weight of the lever. Installation should have been a breeze, but I ran into a complication which may have been a 1 in a million coincidence. After mounting the assembly, you're to place the inside level on and fasten it down with this small Allen head screw. One thing I found very odd is that it was reverse threaded. Lefty was tighty and righty was loosey. No big deal. The major problem came when the screw was too big to fit though hole on the lever so it could screw down into the inner assembly. I taped up the lever in painter's tape, to avoid scratching, and drilled out the hole to a slightly larger diameter. This wasn't good enough. The screw had a tiny lip at the end of it. It was as though the manufacturer had a bold mold were they poured the molten steel, and it created a tiny lip. I had to use my Dremmel to grind it down to match the diameter of the rest of the screw. It all worked out in the end, but it was still a pain having to do all of this for a relatively easy install. This is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5...

EDIT: I realized my installation mistake when the 2nd set of levers came in with the same problem. The tiny allen head screw is suppose to stay on the center assembly mechanism. You are suppose to put the inside level on, stick the allen key through the hole, and back the screw out. As the screw backs out, it presses against the inside of the lever securing it to the center assembly...

Can be multi keyed with other SmartKey locks

I've installed three Kwikset SmartKey deadbolts - all keyed the same. This entry lever Kwikset uses the same SmartKey system, so I installed it and changed the keying to match the other locks.
Pros: Can be SmartKey changed and relatively inexpensive. Looks good. Simple to install.
Cons: Not the strongest construction and tamper-resistance available, but for the price - what the heck. Long screws provided should be much longer - replaced them with 4" deck screws.

These look good, and were easy to install. -0.5 star since in the cold weather they transmit the cold from out to in; brrr. Some form of thermal isolation would be great.
[update from 2.5 years later:]
The handle on my primary door decided to come off in my hand. No warning. It was the exterior handle, so it's not really meant to come off at all. Calling Kwikset solved the problem: it's a known issue that sometimes the exterior set screw gets loose. I won't pull a star, because the service rep was patient, but this seems a bit of a hassle.

Purchased This to Replace Similar Schlage Model

That title is a little misleading. I did indeed buy this lever specifically to replace a brand spanking new Schlage lever. But the reason I did wasn't because of craftsmanship, rekeying abality, color, or some other fault in the Schlage lever. I replaced it with this Kwikset lever because of an "emergency exit" feature on the Schlage levers. I just went and replaced all the knobs in my house with Schlage levers, except one door, which got this Kwikset lever instead. You see, the emergency exit allows you to open the door from the inside no matter if it's locked or not. This is a great feature if your house is going up in flames, but when it's not, it can bet somewhat annoying and could easily allow you to accidentally lock yourself out of the house. We actually like this feature on the Schlage lever except for our basement door. We wanted a keyed entry from the basement as it could be a point of entry for a burglar. I don't know of any emergency, short of a tornado or maybe carpet bombing(!), that I would want to scramble to the basement for. This feature is particularly dangerous for us as we have a small child who can now reach the levers and pull them down. Him tumbling down the basement stairs is pretty low on my list of life experiences I hope to share with him. So, we opted for this Kwikset lever and moved the Schlage to another outside door. The Kwikset does not have this emergency exit feature.

Having both of them in my hand at the same time I would have to say I prefer the Schlage lever over the Kwikset. But that doesn't mean the Kwikset is of poor quality. It actually seems like a pretty well built piece. If I hadn't opted for the Schalge hardware I would expect myself to be pleased with my Kwikset levers. I did almost buy all Kwikset to start with. The SmartKey seems like a great idea and just about had me sold. That is until I went on Youtube and watched people break into these locks pretty easily. I know those guys are pros but it scared me enough to not buy them. I ended up spending $75 overall, or so, more on the Schlage which did not have a SmartKey like system. I do believe Schlage makes locks with their own rekeying system but these I bought did not have them. Which, if it takes away even a little bit of security of your house, is a good thing to skip. I've got all my keys labeled and ordered now for all my new locks and it's not really much of a hassle. The SmartKey system would have saved me from keeping track of about three pair of keys. Not really worth it in the end.

The reason I have four stars is for a few reasons. The videos of people breaking these locks have a lot to do with it. But also they are a little bit smaller than the Schalge levers. I also don't really like how the base cover snaps on and off. It is the only way to expose the screw heads to attach/detach the lever. I did, however, like the handle switching. At first it seems like a much better system than the Schlage levers. You just take an allen wrench, which is provided, and give a couple of turns down by the base. There's a little screw in there that loosens and you can easily slide of the levers and switch them around. This part was similar, but a little bit easier than the Schlage ones. However, it wasn't easier in the end. I had to take the base cover off to screw it together in the door. Then I had to snap the cover back on before I put the lever back on and screwed it down. I had none of that extra stuff with the Schlage levers. Sure, the screws aren't exposed on the Kwikset becasue of the snap on cover, but I don't even notice them on the others anyway.

It is worth saying too that these levers are very similar to the Schlage Tustin Satin Nickel levers I am comparing with. They looks very, very similar. Maybe just a bit of a size difference, but not much. The colors match and the style and shape match perfectly. The one big difference between the two is the base of the lever. The Kwikset is more grooved and the Schlage base is just a smooth slope.

Looks good, works well, and the smart key function is a huge plus. My knock, if the small screw that holds the lever to the locking mechanism is not aligned just so, the lock itself will not function. That took me a while to figure out and was purely by chance.

It's so much better than the sloppy mess that it replaced. It's not top end. It's Kwikset. But it feels better once installed than you'd think based on holding the components in your hands.
