I love this jig, it really is very simple but it does the job it's supposed to perfectly. The build quality is fine and it's easy to store, with one small caveat involving the alan/hex key - there's built in retainers for the drill bit and pin but not for the hex key (no problem really as long as you know where you keep your set).
IMPORTANT: The 5mm version is
everything is identical but you won't need to buy a new drill bit when you realise you've got the 1/4" version! 90% of people looking at this will want the 5mm version, that said there's really very little else to complain about, it's a great product and I don't regret buying it for a second.
I ordered two of these to join together when I was making two bookcases. I drilled the holes in the first bookcase and later on in the second. When I came to fit the shelf supports the holes in the two bookcases were not the same size. The drill bit supplied with the first jig was 5mm the one supplied with the second was 1/4"! If you buy more than one check the drill bit sizes. Otherwise an excellent product. Easy to use, accurate and fast.
I bought this with the intent on building my kitchen cabinets with movable shelves. Man, I wish these were available years ago. Easy to use, solid. I expected it to be cheap, and bought two, no need. One of these will last you a life time unless you are a professional. The holes were perfect. Be sure to confirm which size you will be using before ordering they come in 1/4" and 5mm.
I'm building a home office by myself and am retrofitting/modifying some nice used office furniture to use as components. I decided to add a lot of shelving inside some cupboards in a way that would be compatible with the minimalist aesthetic of the furniture, using adjustable shelf pins and long lines of drilled holes (IKEA-style).
I wasn't sure how to drill the holes evenly and precisely, though, and didn't want to make a mess of the mahogany veneer. I wasn't initially aware that this drilling rig existed until a friend who is a hobbyist cabinetmaker told me about it.
It works beautifully, it's intuitive to use, and it's extremely durable (even though made of plastic). I'm kinda afraid to tell my friends about it and lend it out, because I'll never get it back!
This is my second Pin Jig. I have joined the two together so can drill 11 holes at once. Just finished a floating shelf system for the wife’s pantry ( 12 shelves). This is a dry run with birch 3/4 inch veneer plywood ( 3 -4x8sheets). The next project will be a Oak Bookshelf 8 feet high and ten feet long next Spring. Also have a pocket hole jig that I use for reinforcing old Oak chairs.
