bOUGHT 2 IN OCTOBER, ONE WORKS VERY WELL, THE OTHER ONE DOESN`T NOT WORK AT ALL SINCE THE MIDDLE OF DECEMBER. I CHANGED THE BATTERIES, LUBRICATED THE MOVING PARTS BUT NOTHING WORKS, I WOULD HAVE GIVEN A BETTER REVIEW IF BOTH OF THEM WOULD HAVE WORKED. SORRY. I NEEDED TO REPLACE ANOTHER 2 THIS SUMMER BUT I WILL TRY TO FIND AN ALTERNATIVE OR ANOTHER SUPPLIER
I installed The new door lock about a week ago. The keypad with the lock jammed up a couple times. Never really thought much about it then my family came home in -35°C and could not get in the house. The key would not work and the code would not work either.
Ordered one set didn’t work couldn’t set passcode, 2nd set replacement still doesn’t work properly can’t lock and unlock with keypad.. have to lock manually with button then can unlock with keypad.. too grumps to return this too!!
After having had wonderful success with my Schlage keyless entry for my main front and back doors I wanted to do the same for my bedroom doors, as I do short term hosting and people do lose keys. So, the build quality comes across as somewhat amateurish, as if the company is still figuring out how to spec it to their factory overseas.
I have five of these in the house, including my own bedroom, and the breakdown is: my bedroom works fine, except for in addition to my code the numbers "00" also unlock it (um, not good). Two bedrooms are fine, though it (and the rest) tend to eat batteries for breakfast. Really, they need to be changed monthly; probably because there is a motor turning things whereas the Schlage just "allows" the unlocking action and the end user still turns everything. Another bedroom seems inconsistent on its reliability, in terms of not fully operating on the motor, and one final room the motor is stuck, it won't turn the locking barrel all the way, basically not working for its essential purpose; to note this one was in its box for some time, not sure if it got banged around, but still.
I have gotten panicked lock-out calls from roommates with enough regularity that I just give them the key and advise them to treat it like a regular locking door knob, and to never lock it without the key on hand. So, basically having said that I could just get one of the many regular locking interior knobs available at any hardware store.
Lastly, the website and youtube channel are woefully inadequate. There is no place to get a PDF of the instructions or even the code setting information (as of last time checking) and the Youtube channel videos seem to only underscore the "hobbyist" vibe this product seems to convey.
In all, if I had it to do again I wouldn't purchase this product. I can't speak to any other interior locking knob product as I have only used these; but these seem to be not ready for prime time.
I bought this door knob almost three years ago. Installation, programming codes, and basic use are all easy to figure out. First impressions are good.
Within the first a couple months, the buttons began to chatter: Pressing a key would register twice, forcing you to restart code entry. Avoiding key chatter would require very delicate presses. With time, the problem has gotten worse.
I was once holding a package while opening the door and the box scraped off the rubber domes for a couple of the buttons. It didn't seem to require much force to tear them off. Now I reach into the housing with my pinky to press the switches directly. It's a bit of a squeeze for my relatively small fingers. This may not be a problem if you're extra careful with the keypad.
About two years in, unlocking electronically began to fail. I would have to re-enter codes to get it to unlock. I noticed that it fails less frequently when the batteries are fresh. As time went on, it took more and more re-tries. Today, I have a 100% failure rate while unlocking electronically -- even with brand new batteries. I'm only able to get through the door with a key now.
This was our first keyless lock. We really liked the concept and it was an easy transition from keyed entry. However, over time, the poor quality became more evident. The number key pads were cheap and often did not work (some times it double punched the number; other times, it would not make contact and register the number). Over time, we adjusted the key codes to different numbers but the same problem arose. We tolerated the miscues for a couple years.
Now at the 3 year mark, the whole system is not registering properly and the looking mechanism using the keypad is not working.
I would expect more durability from the lock.. I will not buy this brand again. The quality is poor.
