Bought this extension pole with matching purdy cage and roller 2 months ago to paint interior of our new build house over Summer. Loved the roller, very easy to use over large areas and great for ceilings. Roller sleeve easy to clean with water after using emulsion and first roller I ever washed and the water quickly runs out absolutely clean and colourless. The pole was a disappointment, not robust and central pin fell out, I can still use pole but had to glue it so unable to shorten for narrower corridors now. Also not study at extension joint when new and even more unstable now.
BE CAREFUL WITH THE ROLLER, when painting the pole slipped out of my hand and the cage crashed on the floor and cracked the plastic yellow side holder on the roller so that's the end of the roller. It didn't even fall far, about 1 metre, just my luck the way it landed. The cage was the best part and because I have it and purdy bucket and can't find a better roller/pole to match the cage I have to go ahead and buy another roller and extension pole!
Expected it to be sturdier for the money. It wobbles quite significantly in the middle with every move (see the video). The whole assembly with attached roller cage feels flimsy because of that. The locking mechanism leaves tiny dents in the inner rod wherever you lock it. And it’s quite heavy. Returned.
While very sturdy, I found this was pretty heavy and difficult to hold over time. I traded it out for a telescopic version made of metal and it is much easier. Don't recommend this due to its heavy wooden base. Also doesn't get in tight spaces very well. Almost everywhere I've had to paint with this has been too small to use it (like bathrooms).
Had this thing for 1 job and within the first 2 rooms it started to slide on me. i've been painting for 10 years and have multiple of these and none have had this kind of issue, this quick. I didn't even push hard and it now slides on me with the slightest of pressure.
Purdy says that the threads will work with other products (not Purdy) that have a standard female thread but that is NOT true. Also on their website they show a “Quick Connect Adapter” under “ New Products” I have gone to two of their dealer stores and been told that Purdy no longer distributes that product and that it has been discontinued.
I would not recommend this product to anyone needing to attach a non purdy to one of their extension poles.
Yeah this thing is too heavy for 9 foot walls, but I do need it for a 20 foot wall and an 18 and 16er, but the Purdy roller I bought just for this ALWAYS comes loose!!! I thought it was a non Purdy roller at first but then just verified it is, there is some sort of extention adapter like peice on the screw that goes into the roller handle, but nothnig "clicks" it steady and I swear you will spend a ton of time screwing it back on, this thing sucks overall and now Im stuck with it.
It's got the weight, and honestly it's not bad if extended, it's like an almost even weight distribution, and feels like a rock solid pole.
But for a 8 to 10 wall, though it works great, be prepared for a nice, but perhaps unexpected, bicep pain the following day associated with a bit of back pain from working out, again, not a bad thing, buy a word to the people who may have bad backs and or arm endurance, I'm 36, decent shape and I hurt the next day, but it was a good (for me) hurt.
