Bought two Peltor 300 Electronic Hearing Protectors about two months ago. One is still working using its first set of batteries. The other Peltor 300 worked for a while, but now its batteries are dead after about two hours of use. Am trying to get the defective Peltor 300 fixed or replaced under one year warranty. Not easy. When working, controls are reasonably easy to use to turn on, to turn off, and to increase/decrease sensitivity. However, the sound attenuation is small enough that I need also to insert foam ear plugs when using the 300. Even so, it is easy to be able to hear voices between bangs. Recovery after a bang is so fast as not to be noted. Odd thing is that a soft clinking of two things together produces a significant click as the device gets ready for a bang that does not arrive. When the Peltor 300 is working and you are augmenting it with foam ear plugs, it works well at bringing very loud bangs down while allowing one to hear voices. Battery insertion is difficult. Have not used the ability to use with tape recorder or such. Adjustment to head size is OK. Construction quality is fair. Cost is high.
They are nice / effective Ear Protection----- but the Price is 50% MORE than many other competing products. You receive a One Decibel Reduction with these than you get with most other Head Units, but clearly not worth the Price of $75 ! You Do Not need to spend more than $40 for an effective Set for Ear Protection. If using Strictly for Music, perhaps that is worth the extra cost, but not necessary for Gun Range Use. Would Not Recommend.
I've had the Peltor Sport Tactical 300 for just over 3 months (the return window is about 1 week over) and these won't turn on anymore. They work for blocking loud noise but no electronic sound amplification. I've tried 3 sets of new batteries and these are dead, dead, dead. I thought for nearly $100 these would be long lasting and a quality item. I'll be looking for a different manufacture pair of electronic hearing protection.
After wearing these for 15 mins at home, I had to return them. I am a 7-3/8" hat size and these Peltor Tactical 300's where painful to wear. They have a length adjustment ( like most) but no tension adjustment. Granted, I haven't found any ear muffs that do. I own a pair of Howard Leight Pro (not the Impact Sports) model and they are much more comfortable on my size large melon. Much less clamping force with a higher dB rating. Overall the quality seemed on par with the Howard Leight's. Too bad about the size.
These were great- the one day they worked. I got batteries in, took them with to the indoor range and shot a bunch. They were comfortable, sound quality was good, and suppression was great. I took them to the range a second time, but they wouldn't turn on. I thought the batteries were dead for some reason, so no biggie. No I'm at home trading batteries and fussing with it, but nothing will get them to turn back on. I guess these are just standard muffs now
I was able to use this product for quite a while and loved it. Perfect volume control and instant noise cancellation when firing a gun. But after only a year and a half one of the ear pieces broke clean off, rendering them useless. I would like to give it 5 stars but the short life earns it only 2.
Peltor makes good stuff, so they work, I guess they're ok. But I'm not satisfied, it just took me too long to try them out. There's a background hiss, and it goes completely quiet when cutting out sharp, loud noises. With that said, if you're looking at this product then you're looking for quality hearing protection and willing to pay a reasonable amount for it. My 2 Peltor 97451 3M Tactical Sport Earmuff have proven to be a vastly superior product for only a little more. The small difference in cost comes with a significant quality jump.
I used mine for 4 matches, 2 USPA and 2 3 Gun, before they started making popping noises and occasional screeches which were uncomfortable on the ears to hear. Prior to that they worked well. They are quite comfortable and the noise cancellation was good. The wanted noise amplification was poor and the sound returned by the electronic amplification was off. It was hard to discern what people were saying. I would recommend the Howard Leighton Bolt over these.
WORKS WELL, BUT HEAVY AND UNCOMFORTABLE AFTER 30 MINUTES. I GOT THIS SO I COULD WEAR HEARING PROTECTION ON A REGULAR BASIS, RATHER THAN HAVING TO TAKE IT OFF TO HEAR CONVERSATION AND INSTRUCTIONS. BUT I CAN'T WEAR IT VERY LONG WITHOUT A HEADACHE.
