I was looking for a smart lock allowing to program access codes remotely. The fact that Yale products were associated to Google with Nest lock, that this product is tagged "Amazon Choice", and the fact that this product can connect to Smartthing gave the impression that it was a competitive smart lock. It is not. This product allows you to enter manually 250 different code entries from the digital panel of the lock, but absolutely no management of these codes is allowed remotely. In terms of Smartthing capability, the only things it allows it is an "unlock" button. Basically, buy this product if the only goal you were aiming was to not have to reach anymore your pocket for your key. At best, it only replaces your physical key, just as any electrical locks sale to a quarter of this price. If you are looking for a smart lock to control and monitor access to your residence, don't buy this product.
These locks are total crap. First I tried buying the HomeKit one. Never could get it working, as it's not actually HomeKit, but has to use this special Yale app. Go check Yale Secure in the app store, it has a 1.7 star review with every single review saying it's garbage and doesn't work, so I returned it.
I exchanged it for the August one which is just as big a piece of garbage. It works fine when on bluetooth but the Wifi connect module is a total joke. I have it sitting beside the door, there's full wifi, but both say bluetooth signal is too low and so is wifi. I have it on an extension cord right now SITTING ON THE LOCK and it keeps saying you need to move the August connect bridge closer to the lock! So sick of this company, this one is going back now as well. Avoid these, they are total garbage.
I installed this lock in January and initially had little to no problems. This week the lock jammed after leaving the house and would not unlock upon return. When entering my code it would flash the numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 (which makes a sort of an 'X' shape on the keypad). Scouring through their support provides no information nor could I find any documentation about this error code. I did see one lone review website that mentioned the exact same issue but that was it. I discovered the ONLY fix is to manually turn the lock multiple times from the inside to free the jammed mechanism.
After speaking to both Yale customer support (note: they are only open during business hours M-F and half day on Saturdays so if you have a problem on the weekend you could be out of luck), they casually mentioned this model had more issues than most regarding seizing. Because the lock is now working normally they would not provide assistance or a replacement. ...or seem to really care.
Since I live in a townhome with only a front door (utilizing this lock) and a sliding back door, I was locked out of my house for hours late at night and ended up having to break in. Calling a locksmith was of no use as their only recourse was to destroy the lock with a drill. I mention this as a warning for others with a similar setup - if you get this key-less lock make sure you have backup access to your house as this model is not dependable.
This lock does not have the capability to connect to Bluetooth or wifi or use an application to lock or unlock the deadbolt. I was totally mislead. It will cost you another $285.00 to get the upgrade module to connect to Bluetooth and Wifi.
We bought this product back in july and did not open it until today because we had no one to install it for us. Opening the box we were missing the instruction book, the other white gadget that plugs into the wall , the pin that opens the pad, and all paper work. What the heck. Now its too late to have it replaced. What do we do.
